CeBIT: 108 inch LCD-TV, PS3 Digital-TV mod and other big things

The CeBIT hasn't even started but news websites around the world won't get tired posting about things you will actually see there. This time the Heise Newsticker reports about the world's biggest LCD-TV made by Sharp. 108 inch (2,74 meters) is what you have to beat nowadays and to set you back right away, there is no price tag on it which doesn't mean it's for free.
If you still want to connect your game console to a big display I would advise you to look at the more affordable HD1E- and XL1E Series. You can choose between 52" and 46" and all four devices have a native solution of 1920x1080. The HD1E screens come with four tuners (DVB-S, DVB-C, DVB-T, analog) whereas the XL1Es only support DVB-T and analog TV.

[---]

Besides playing a game what could one do with a Playstation 3? - Right - watching TV! You won't believe me? Then check out the latest PS3-mod done by the c't-Magazin gurus: An external DVB-T-box here, a little bit of Linux there, mix it with some special kernel- and driver modifications, let it stay for an hour and there you go:

It's even capable to record the DVB-stream and watch it later on. Sadly the how-to-guide is the printed c't Special Mag which will only be printed in German. So I guess if you can't read the German language you have to wait until another website catches the story and translates the article. Usually within a few weeks the methods get spread around the planet.

Another big thing presents Maxpoint - a computer case with a 360mm fan at the side and another 250mm fan integrated into the front! The 'Aplus El Diablo' will cost you around 120 Euro and will be available in May.

CeBIT : Lamborghini Spotted @ ASUS Booth

Some interesting sightings over at ASUS booth where they literally drive a Lamborghini in to show the prestige of their Lamborghini notebooks. Also we have Shamino's LN2 containers on Striker Extreme demo rig although no real LN2 demonstration is carried out there. Check out our Pre-CeBIT coverage for more photos and details.

CeBIT : Bearlake Live Demos Spotted

So far, we saw 2 live demos of the P35 boards today; one is from Foxconn and the other is from Gigabyte. Foxconn is running a P357AA-8EKRS2H board using OXCCO DDR-II 667 memories while Gigabyte is running a GA-P35T-DS3 board using Infineon DDR3 memories. Intel allows motherboard makers to display Bearlake boards during CeBIT but no benchmarks run allowed yet. Check out our Pre-CeBIT coverage for more photos and details.

ASUS will have a lot to show at CeBIT

Fudzilla reports that ASUS will have a wide variety of products to show at CeBIT.

First off, there will be notebooks:

The VX2 notebook from the Lamborghini line will be available for viewing. The W5Fe will make an appearance, as as the world's first SideShow notebook.

Also from the notebook department, there is the ultra-portable U1F, weighing in at less than 1kg:

Next, two monitors will be presented:

The LS201 20 inch LCD monitor that provides slim elegance. The display has a jewel-class glass for both aesthetical and protective reasons, so it won't be scratched ever again. It has a contrast ratio of 2000:1. The other one is more interesting, of course because it supports HDCP function with DVI input. It is a 22 inch wide-screen with a 16:10 screen ratio, and it has a fast 2ms Response Time.

For overclocking gadgets and a watercooled GeForce 8800, click below.

Last but not least, ASUS plans to show off some devices aimed at overclockers:

The first of them is ASUS OC Gear which is a interesting device for computer enthusiasts. It is a real-time overclocking device for graphics cards. It displays graphic card information like GPU temperature and the current FPS. And with a little spin you can adjust GPU speed and GPU fan speed. Next in line is a notebook users wet dream, external graphic card. At CeBIT, ASUS will be hosting a public demonstration of XG Station. It is equipped with Express Card interface, USB 2.0 and Dolby Headphone output.

ASUS will also have a water cooled GeForce 8800 on display:

Intel G35 is DirectX 10

Roadmap: Hardware support in chipset

Intel will release two graphics chipsets in next two quarters. This never happened in Intel's history at least not in last ten years that we can remember. The first one will be showcased at Cebit and its called G33. This chipset is supposed to replace 945G / GZ chipsets and to make G965 runs for its money.

The new G33 chipset supports Yorkfield and Wolfdale processors and Core 2 Duo / Quad Extreme with FSB 1333 or slower. It supports DDR 2 800 or DDR3 1066 and is compatible with ICH9, ICH9R and ICH9DH Southbridges. We don't have much details about the graphics itself but we believe that it should be better than G965 we tested before.

G35 is scheduled for Q3, quite odd time to launch a chipset but this integrated baby actually supports DirectX 10. Intel states that it has DirectX 10 support in hardware and that it can run Windows premium just fine. This one also supports Yorkfield and Wolfdale processors, FSB 1333 but DDR 2 800 memory only. There is no sign of DDR 3 support and oddly enough this chipset supports ICH8, ICH8R and ICH8DH but not the ICH9 series of Southbridges.

It is scheduled for Q3 and should see the face between July and September and might be there to get to OEM machines before back to school buying period. ATI also has RS790 DirectX 10 integrated chipset scheduled for similar time.

CeBIT: Ulta-Mobile PCs and other Mini-Notebooks

With a breathtaking pixel density of 263 dpi text and graphics look like printed on the 4.5 inch display (1024x600 pixel) of Sony's Vista Ultra-Mobile PC 'UX1XN'. The mini notebook can be operated with a pen on the screen or with the keyboard which will be revealed if you move the display up. The unit is powered by a 1.33GHz Core Solo (533MHz FSB, 2MB L2-Cache), comes with 1GB RAM, a 32GB Flash hard disk (SSD). [---]
More of it's features are a CF-Slot, a Memory Stick Duo, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11g, USB 2.0 (a single connector only) and Firewire. Price: 2999 Euros!

Fujitsu Siemens presents it's 'Lifebook P7230' with an integrated DVD-Super Multi Writer, a webcam and an UMTS/HSDPA-modem. The very handy (around 1.5kg) Vista Business-notebook comes with a reflective 10.6 inch display (1280x768), an ULV Core Solo with 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM and a 80GB, 4200 RPM hard disk. Price: 2999 Euros!

The second generation of Samsung's UMPC is called 'Q1 Ultra', is powered by an Intel CPU as well and besides the 7 inch Display (1024x600, 300 cd/qm) it has two built-in cameras(one at the front and the other one at the back). With the standard batterie it will run for 4 hours, a bigger one will provide 7 hours. You don't need to worry about connectivity, WLAN, Bluetooth and various cellular phone networks.

CeBIT : Enermax eSATA Case & Detachable Fan Blades

Enermax has a new case with e-SATA ports along side with the usual USB ports. Certainly the popularity of eSATA has picked up pretty much that motherboard makers are making provision for more eSATA ports on their back multi-IO panel. In the future, we will start seeing cases with more eSATA ports.

Enermax has a nice fan based on their Twister Bearing Technology where it has detachable fan blades so you can clean it when it gets dirty.

CeBIT : ASUS Makes Sound Cards Now Using ADI Chips

It seems that ASUS has decided to enter into the audio segment with their latest Xonar D2 and D2K sound cards. The difference between Xonar D2 and D2K is the interface where D2 is on PCI and D2K is on PCI Express x1. We aren't sure what sound chips are on those cards at this point of time but it has the capability to playback and record at 116dB SNR. It supports Dolby Digital Live, DTS Connect and Dolby Headphone standards. Check out our Pre-CeBIT coverage for more photos and details.

Updates : We got the know that Xonar D2 series is using ADI (Analog Devices Inc.) sound chip and ASUS is the exclusive vendor currently. More details later.

CeBIT : OCZ Demo Uses Brain Waves To Play Games

OCZ has a pretty interesting technology product showcase called Neural Impulse Actuator (NIA) where they described it as an input device that uses brain waves signals and convert into some commands to control the PC. NIA can be used in solutions that address PC productivity and gaming applications. OCZ said they will release an affordable consumer product making use of the NIA technology in the next 12 months.

Optimus Keyboard Gets New Name at CeBIT

Here are some good and some bad news about the ultimate Optimus keyboard project, unveiled directly from Artemy Lebedev and Dimitry Tosy right after the CeBIT in Hannover started. I'll begin with the bad news. First the expected $1,200 price is now $1,490(cough). Second, the complete Optimus keyboard isn't being shown at CeBIT, just a few screenshots. Now the good news. The keyboard is now called Optimus Maximus and there will be OLED keys after all with an expected life span of only 5 years. Each 32 x 32 resolution OLED will remain stationary. Pre-orders of the unseen keyboard start in April with delivery in November/December 2007.
