Nikkei Asia reporters in these areas all found severe shortages of the RTX 4090, with prices as much as 60% higher compared with when the chip was launched just over a year ago. After October, Nikkei Asia found instances of it being sold in retail shops for as much as $2,541.
"They are buying these to later resell them to areas that faced U.S. restrictions at a much higher price," one store owner in the market said, adding that graphics cards can be resold for three times the price across the strait. "They can just carry them to Hong Kong or other Chinese cities."
In the depths of Taiwan's largest electronics market, Guanghua Digital Plaza, purchasing agents dashed from one store to another last October, sweeping Nvidia's RTX 4090 graphics cards onto flatbed trolleys and leaving shelves empty of the premium chips.
The buyers unzipped fanny packs filled with wads of cash and paid millions of New Taiwan dollars for the goods, retailers who spoke to Nikkei Asia recalled.
Back in Taipei's Guanghua market, the rush led one retailer to change his sales policy: Anyone wanting to purchase RTX 4090 chips can now only buy them as part of a complete gaming system.
This proved to be little deterrent.
"They still came and bought more than 20 desktop computer sets just because of the RTX 4090 chips inside. They can tear them down to get the chips and still make a profit," the retailer said. The computers were priced at up to $4,500, "and they were still eager to buy all of them on the shelves."

Em texto.Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super Review
Super Underwhelming
https://www.techspot.com/review/2797-nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-super/
About 25,300 units
This recall involves CableMod’s 12VHPWR Angled Adapters, models V1.0 and V1.1, that plug into a graphics processing unit’s power port at either a 90-degree or a 180-degree angle. Model V1.1 has a stabilizing pin on the side of the male connector. The adapters were sold in black, blue, gold, green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver, and white, and “CableMod” appears on the side of the adapter. The adapters came in two variations to accommodate power port orientation: Variation A and Variation B. The 90-degree angle adapter is “L” shaped: The V1.0 model measures about 36 mm long, 21mm wide and 21 mm deep; and the V1.1 model measures about 36 mm long, 21 mm wide and 22 mm deep. The 180-degree angle adapter is “U” shaped: The V1.0 model measures 41.5 mm long, 21 mm wide and 17.5 mm deep; and the V1.1 measures about 41 mm long, 21 mm wide and 20 mm deep.
https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2024/G...ire-and-Burn-Hazards-Manufactured-by-CableModThe firm has received 272 reports of the adapters becoming loose, overheating and melting into the GPU, with at least $74,500 in property damage claims in the United States. No injuries have been reported.

PCI-SIG, the standards organization responsible for the creation of the 12VHPWR connector, has decided to make changes to the connector's specifications following the failures.
