SNK Announce Slug-fest For Wii
After a long absence from Nintendo's home consoles, SNK is to bring Metal Slug Anthology to the Wii...
SNK's first title for the Wii will be Metal Slug Anthology, a compilation of classic Metal Slug games enhanced to use the 'Wiimote' controller by allowing players to use gestures to control on-screen movement.
Games featured include the original Metal Slug, plus 2, 3, 4, 5 and X. There is no word as yet if the sixth numbered incarnation will feature, however the SNK have said the collection would include "many additional suprises".
The games will retain their original 2D side-scrolling style, though little else is currently known. Specifics are expected next week at E3, where screenshots will also be available. SNK Playmore USA Corporation president Ben Herman commented that "the Wii controller will be used in a new and unique way that enhances the gameplay. Our fans have demanded that we support Nintendo platforms. Let the celebration begin."
Cube To Drop In Price Post-E3?
Retailers are being readied for a possible price drop sometime later this month! Could the Cube's price be about to plummet?
EB stores have apparently recieved blank price stickers from Nintendo with the words "New Low Price" on them - to start using later this month. According to Nintendo, the stickers were apparently sent out so stores will be prepared "if" a price drop is announced.
Logically, however, the stickers and posters will not have been sent out unless it is for a good reason, and a price drop for the GameCube after E3 - after which all focus will be on the Wii - sounds like a good bet to us. No doubt we'll hear more during the show.
Wario To Thieve Online?
The upcoming Wario game for the DS apparently has online play!
Last year, Nintendo revealed it had a new Wario game in the works, entitled Kaitou Wario. The game - now re-named Wario the Thief for an English language release appears to have online play as well. French gaming site Jeux-France have a scan from a GameStop leaflet, which shows a big "Wi-Fi Connection" sticker for the game.
Nintendo is expected to reveal the title in full next week at E3, but until then, you can check out the scan for yourself here!
Spectrobes Announced For DS
The latest Pokémon clone is heading to the DS, courtesy of Buena Vista Games. Meet the Spectrobes!
Producers Buena Vista Games have revealed an exclusive new title for the Nintendo DS based on an original property. Entitled Spectrobes, the new franchise will also have an anime-style TV series and a large-range of merchandise to tie-in.
The game introduces two junior Interplanetary Patrol officers named Rallen and Jeena who learn of strange, prehistoric creatures called Spectrobes that possess special powers. These fossilized Spectrobes hold the key to defeating a vicious and merciless force, known only as the Krawl that threatens to destroy the galaxy. The two heroes embark on a mission to save their galaxy - to do so they must excavate, awaken, train and collect all the Spectrobes they can and battle to defeat the Krawl.
Spectrobes is infused with the edgy, highly stylized look and feel of Japanese anime and manga, and is set to combine original characters, a compelling story and "breakthrough" gameplay. Players will be able to excavate, train and battle with nearly 500 unique creatures - apparently utilising every interactive feature of the Nintendo DS.
Once a creature is 'excavated' using the touch screen portion of the Nintendo DS, the Spectrobe is then awakened and can be used in real-time battles with enemies. Players must collect, train and help their Spectrobes evolve in order to progress and succeed in the game. With highly customizable elements and powers, each Spectrobe is unique to individual game players.
While Nintendo is still dithering with it's own Pokémon titles for the DS, could the Spectrobes steal their fame? Only time will tell....
