Shipments of AMD's Llano processors to the China market as a percentage of global shipments increased to close to one-third in August and 50% in September, making AMD more focused on the China market, according to motherboard makers in Taiwan.
Due to weak yield rates on Globalfoundries' 32nm process causing AMD to suffer a supply shortage, while demand for Llano processors from China is gradually outpacing demand in Europe and the US, AMD, for the future, has decided to give priority to China in order to maximize its interests, the sources noted.
With Llano processors' strong demand, AMD is already considering outsourcing orders to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the sources revealed.
In the fourth quarter, shipments of AMD's mainstream Llano processors including the A8-3850, A8-3800, A6-3650, A6-3600, A6-3500, A4-3400 and A4-3300, are expected to reach 3.6-3.8 million units, up 10% sequentially. The company is also set to launch several new processors including the A8-3820, A6-3620 and A4-3420, in the near future.
