In view of overwhelming response to the first batch of available units and to be fair to those who signed up early, we will provide registered members the opportunity to make their pre-orders on a "first register, first serve" basis.

From 12th November 2007, we will send out invitation to first batch of registered members, they will have two days to complete their pre-orders using Google Checkout which schedule to ship on 19th November 2007 onwards.

This will be followed by the next batch of registered members, so on and so forth, until we have provided all registered members the opportunity to make the pre-order, before opening it up to newly registered members.

Popcorn Hour A-100 allows you to pull in digital video, audio and photos from various sources for your enjoyment on your HDTV or Home Theater setup.

You can stream or playback your digital media content from a variety of sources, such as your PC, NAS, digital camera, USB mass storage devices (Flash drive, HDD, DVD drive) , internal HDD* and even directly from the Internet via the Media Service Portal.

It also serves as a NAS and a BitTorrent peer-to-peer downloader** to eliminate the need to switch on a PC or other device for this purpose.

The Popcorn Hour A-100 supports the latest high bitrate video formats (MPEG2 MP@HL, H.264 [email protected], VC-1 AP@L3 in TS of at least 40Mbps) to give you up to 1080p high-definition videos.

In recognition of advances in Internet TV, the A-100 supports peer-to-peer Internet TV streaming technology from SayaTV, as well as popular unicast internet TV such as YouTube, Google Video and Metacafe via the Media Service Portal.

The A-100 firmware is upgradeable to support future media containers, codecs and features.

* HDD not included
**
An internal HDD is required for these functions.

mpcclub.com - NMT PopCorn Hour A100

Ao que parece vem aí novas versões!

Here's what I know so far (unverified and subject to changes)

A-110: USB Slave / SATA / HDMI 1.1
B-110: Home Theatre main Board based on feedback, comments and targetted for the hobbyist to create it's own HTPC style case and be a bit active around modding and making it's own casing (also a casing could be provided).

IDE / USB Slave / HDMI 1.3 / MINI ITX factor Optical / Coaxial / Mini PCI
Player is internally references as "hi-jack hour"

A-112: SATA / USB Slave / HDMI 1.3 cube casing with LCD

S-200A: 2GB Flash, Black player, HDMI 1.1 and VGA, UART port (signage)

WN-100: USB Wireless N USB dongle (20Mbps capped for now)

If you want more, keep an eye on the news here and MPC during next week. This is all we know. Unless there are changes to be made, it is believed these players will make it around summer holidays (mid to end June 2008)
Chips are not communicated but we expect SMP8634/5 and maybe an older one in one of the units... We don't know yet but will know soon :-)

I got a lot of emails about this(A-100) player and decided instead of answering them all .. I will just write a review with a bit of explanations on how it works and what you eat it with.

Popcorn Hour A-100 - a compact media player that can stream or playback digital media from USB flash drive / external HD / Camera / PC / NAS / or even Internet. It's produced by a company named Syabas. This company is in the business of developing firmware for others.... but now they are finally in the hardware business as well. The fact that they are firmware developer is a HUGE plus and you can see it as soon as you star working with the unit(no major bugs).

The unit is very compact.. 270mm x 132mm x 32mm, just a bit bigger then the old VHS tape. It's based on a Sigma SMP8635 chip and as the result of that it supports H.264 above all the standard stuff like DiVX / WMV9 / XviD... etc. It also has an ability to stream all the media over Ethernet 10/100, which is always nice. Also for those lazy types .. it has a BitTorrent already installed in the unit so you can download from it.

Current competition for this unit is EVA 8000 / Ziova CS505 / KiSS DP-558 / Snazio Net Cinema HD / DViCo TViX and a few others... but none of them come even close to the price of this unit... $179 USD + shipping. (came out to $192 USD total for me).

For those of you who know what AppleTV is .. Well its basically AppleTV on steroids and so far I have yet to find any format that would not play on this box(I have tried over 70 movies / shows that I downloaded from this tracker).

There are a few points that people missing... no YOU DO NOT NEED HDD (which is NOT included with the unit) to stream your movies. You can play them by mapping your network share via SMB or NFS (which are included in the firmware as of the latest version). Or you can use your external HDD and connect them via USB ports.

So if you have any more questions... I can answer them for you... I believe cerote bought one of these units as well.
