Sony has taken the wraps off a new television tuner and personal video recorder for PS3 in its Games Convention 2007 press conference.

Dubbed PlayTV, it will let you watch and record your favourite shows on your console completely independently of each other - so you can view something while saving something else. If you like.

You'll be able to choose programmes to keep on your hard drive by selecting them from a fancy seven-day guide, and even control it all remotely using your PSP - in case you forgot to tell it to record something before you left for work. Or you could just stream it to your PSP and watch it elsewhere.

It will use the Digital Video Broadcasting standard, and be able to intelligently display the picture in high or standard definition depending on the capabilities of your TV.

"The introduction of PlayTV really will extend the already broad entertainment credentials of PS3, and makes it an exceptionally attractive proposition for the whole family," said David Reeves, big cheese of Sony Europe.

It's so easy your ageing parents could probably use it - or so we're told, and will be available in early 2008 across the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain.

A price is yet to be mentioned.

Vai depender do preço, se fôr até 200€ é lindo (fica a pouco mais q uma Hauppauge PVR-500MCE que ia comprar) :D, se custar mais já fico a pensar 2x
Com uma coisa destas vale a pena pensar a sério no upgrade do disco da PS3 para >= 160Gb, e lá vão +130€...
Em alternativa podes usar o PC pr PVR passas pr a PS3 com o media server ;)

No entanto pareçe que ainda não há nada para nós.

Relembro que esta ferramenta apenas recebe DVB-T, protocolo esse apenas utilizado pela ArTelecom em Portugal mas que se encontra em fase de iniciação de aprovação em Portugal esperando-se que a partir do segundo semestre de 2008 já possamos ter DVB-T

It will be possible to export TV recordings made with PS3's forthcoming digital TV receiver in a standard file format and store them anywhere you like, Sony explained today.

Mark Bunting, a producer at Sony's Cambridge Studio, which is working on the software for the PlayTV device, showed how the MPEG-2 video files could be moved from the PlayTV interface to the PS3's home menu.

From there, they can be moved to another storage device such as a memory stick, backup hard drive or PC. There is no copy protection in place and no time limit on how long the recording can be kept. Asked what you could do with the file Bunting said: "Anything you like, really, as long as you do it legally. It's in its raw format."

He was no doubt alluding to the piracy of TV programmes that is currently rampant on BitTorrent peer-to-peer networks. It seems that there will be nothing to stop PlayTV acting as a source of these recordings, as can any PC TV tuner.

"We've talked to our legal department about it," said Bunting. "All we're doing is moving it out of PlayTV and to the cross-media bar as if it was any other recording. So hopefully users won't do stuff they shouldn't do with it.

"If I'm prohibited from getting the recording off and storing it somewhere else because some other dude is making money out of selling it, then I'd rather they brought the law in to catch those people," he added.

We'll be posting full details about PlayTV soon - although sadly, these still will not include a price or release date for the device, which are still under wraps.

O Play TV trata-se de um projecto desenvolvido pela Sony que te vai permitir vêr televisão na PS3, e posterirmente também na PSP.

Está planeado para a Europa mas não se sabe quando vai sair, poderá estar para breve. Vais obviamente necessitar de uma Play TV box para ligares á PS3. Isto inclui funcionalidades como a gravação de programas enquanto vês outro canal. Para TV em directo para veres de novo quando voltas, etc, é uma espécie de MEO.

Tens aqui um vídeo que te mostra exactamente como vai ser o Play TV.
 
Vamos lá ver se for lançada mesmo em Setembro para PT, se terá alguma utilidade... duvido muito visto que não temos TDT, mas também confesso que ainda não percebi muito bem o funcionamento desta "Box".

Já li várias coisas na net, sobre funções que vai suportar, preços, etc ... vamos lá ver, cá para mim cheira-me que mais uma vez, vamos andar na cauda da Europa.

Em princípio sim, pelo menos acho e reforço o acho, que já vi um video de demonstração da Play TV que teve lugar em Londres e apanhavam canais alemães por exemplo.

Isto é daquelas coisas que é mesmo esperar para ver...
 
O 1º país a receber isto vai ser o Reino Unido em setembro e depois até ao final do ano vai sair nos restantes países, mas Portugal só deve receber lá pra 2009. O preço acho que deverá ser de 100€.
