"Apple has picked up rights to air a Super Bowl commercial on February 4. The rumor is that they'll use that commercial to announce an three-month exclusive deal to electronically distribute some Beatles music via the iTunes Store," Blackfriars' Communications' Carl Howe writes for SeekingAlpha.

Howe asks, "Now wearing my marketing hat, this raises a question: Does this ad buy make sense from an ROI point of view?"

Howe does the math and decides that there might "be more in an Apple Super Bowl ad than just the Beatles announcement."

Howe writes, "Assuming it was able to negotiate the rights, Apple will probably announce a Beatles-themed iPod to bundle with the Beatles music, just as it did with the U2 iPods. And given that Apple just talked down iPod projections for the first quarter, that would be a smart way to boost sales during this traditionally slow period -- and again surpass analyst projections."

Howe wonders if even something like that is big enough for a Super Bowl ad, "A Beatles iPod that had all the sexy wide-screen and touch-screen goodness of an iPhone without the phone functions would certainly fit that bill, but I don't think Apple would be willing to confuse the market quite this soon after the iPhone introduction. Regardless, my bet is that the Super Bowl ad is about more than just adding the Beatles catalog to iTunes."

LoopRumors is hearing rumblings that Apple is preparing a Special Event that should take place in February or early March. The most likely purpose of the event is to showcase the remaining 'Top Secret' features of Mac OS X (Leopard), and announce an official launch date.

LoopRumors sources previously nailed down March 24th as the official launch, of accurate, this date would be exactly 6 years to the day (also a Saturday) of the official release of Mac OS X 10.0, and fall just in time for a 'Spring 2007' launch.

The information we are hearing may represent the rumored launch of the Beatles coming to iTunes, or the Super Bowl ad. However, the data clearly indicates a 'Special Event' for a product announcement.

Besides Leopard, potential products that are pending are a touch screen video iPod, iLife, new Macs, Displays with built-in iSight, iPod Hi-Fi update, or something completely different.

x2 ... neste momento o que me impede de comprar o macbook é o leopard e os rumores dos novos macbooks que aí vêm já com gráficas dedicadas....

o preço é que vai assustar-me:p

pois ... e o leopard ... se comprar agora duvido que dê para actualizar depois à borlix ... ou dá? (está a perguntar quem nunca teve mac....se calhar a pergunta é um bocado ridícula...).

Quanto ao hardware ainda é o mínimo ..... os C2D sairam agora .... duvido que a alterarem as specs do macbook será na introdução da placa gráfica ... mais, tenho as minhas dúvidas ... não concordas?
 
Acho que esperar pelo Leopard já é bom.

e nao esperes pelo macbook com grafica dedicada, espera mais pelo MacBook Pro de 13'3

s comprares agora tens o Tiger, um upgrade pro leoparda pode variar entre 80 a 130 €
 
macbook pro 13,3" .... tens alguma ideia/rumor das principais diferenças que deve ter para o macbook?

Quanto ao leopard ... pois .... se calhar ainda espero pelo bicho ... março ... tanto tempo:p
 
Eu tou á espera do leopard, para um MB, talvez para um MBP.

Quer dizer.. tb tou um bocado á espera do Santa Rosa ou lá o que é.. mas vou-me descair antes acho eu.. :x2:
 
O meu irmão fez hoje o switch para um iMac Core 2 Duo, ou seja, não esperou pelo Leopard.
Eu (e ele) só vamos ponderar a passagem do Tiger para o Leopard nos nossos Macs depois do 10.5.2 ou 10.5.3, quem como eu foi acompanhando o evoluír do Tiger e os seus regulares updates sabe que só a partir da 10.4.2 desapareceram alguns bugs iniciais mais evidentes, a partir daí foram apenas correcções que o utilizador final pouco notava... agora os dois primeiros updates corrigiram coisas bem importantes, lembro-me do meu Mac Mini no menu de login ficar com o processador colado no máximo (a ventoinha ficava a soprar com todas as forças), bugs como este foram só corrigidos a partir do 10.4.2 ou 10.4.3...
Daí que não vou fazer o switch no primeiro dia, vou aguardar uns meses para ver como correm as coisas.
Daí que quem está à espera do Leopard para ir a correr comprar o Mac, talvez fiquem desiludidos com um ou outro bug mais evidente da versão 10.5.0...

Eu tb nao tenciono comprar o OS Leo no inicio, vi agora os bugs da ultima seed, parecem bastantes para o OS estar realmente pronto em março.

Mas os devs é que sabem.
 
Apple Special Event on February 20

We have just gotten an anonymous tip from a source that indicates that Apple is planning a special event on February 20 to introduce Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard), iLife ‘07 and iWork ‘07 as well as updated Mac Pros. Mac Pros will be available immediately with a free upgrade to 10.5 when it ships, and the ship date for 10.5 will be confirmed for 3/24/07 as we have been predicting for quite some time now. There is some speculation that we may see a week earlier or later for this event, depending on the status of Leopard, but this is the most likely date which is being planned (by this time, Leopard’s new interface will be complete and the OS will be finishing up testing). What better way to demo Leopard than with a brand new 8-core Mac Pro?

Many will remember that last year, not long after Macworld, Apple had a special event on February 28, 2006, to introduce new Intel Mac Minis and iPod HiFi.

The real question on everyone’s mind, however, is…

will we see anything unexpected? Like an updated touchscreen iPod? Or perhaps a 12″ ultra-portable Mac Book Pro? We continue to believe that it’s still going to be a little bit longer before we see either of those… NAB is coming up in April (the 14th-19th) and we’d peg updated Mac Book Pros at this event.

And then, dear Apple Recon Reader (ARR!! :), when will we see the full screen iPod and updated Mac Minis, iMacs, etc.? We don’t have any recon on that, so we’re not just going to make up something like some of the other guys would…if you have any ideas, sound off in the comments section below!

realmente foi-me dito q vinha novos macbook (n sei se era pro ou n) lá para abril ou assim, mas mais caros q os actuais. fiquei um bocado de pé atrás, mas se calhar é mesmo verdade.
esta informação n me foi transmitida directamente pelo que não sei bem a fonte, mas ou foi a propria apple ou o responsavel de informatica (a nivel nacional) da *****.
 
Tens outra vantagem em esperar pelo Leopard... é que comprando agora tens o Tiger + iLife06 e possibilidade de upgrade do SIstema operativo, mas não da suite iLife...

Se não precisas do computador espera... até porque a linha MBP e Imac começam a pesar da idade, especialmente no domínio gráfico (já lá vai um ano desde a versão inicial que tem mantido a gráfica) o que pode indiciar algumas novidades para a introdução do Leopard, reconhecido por ser mais devorador de recursos gráficos por causa do Core animation
