«...XS has a demo machine setup at the Corsair suite running the new Dominator PC10000, I had a few days to play with the ram and I am very impressed with the high speed and lower latency this product is capable of delivering.
Let the numbers speak for themselves. These results were done at the default Mhz and just the timing was changed, I tighened it up @ 2.4v, pretty much the maximum safe voltage that I would suggest for 24/7 use.
The motherboard is the first round of the evga 680i, I will switch over to the Abit Max board for the Swiftech/XS OC event on Tuesday...»

Microsoft at CES 2007
LAS VEGAS — Jan. 7, 2007 — Speaking at the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Microsoft Corp. Chairman Bill Gates and Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division President Robbie Bach showed how the company is delivering a new generation of connected experiences that are inspired by the universal desire to create community and share interests and passions with friends and family.
Gates and Bach announced several new products and services that include new Windows Vista™-inspired PCs, never-before-seen Windows Vista features, an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV)-enabled Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, and a new partnership with Ford Motor Co. that will extend digital experiences to the car. The company also unveiled Microsoft® Windows® Home Server, which provides a central place to help store, protect and access all the digital content in the home.
“As the magic of software makes it easier for people to be creators, publishers and consumers of digital content, it is expanding the way we think about community and entertainment,” Gates said. “From your living room to your car, we’re delivering a wave of new software products and services that make it easier for you to manage your day-to-day lives, express your ideas and share your interests.”
Windows Vista: New Features Revealed as Countdown to Launch Begins
With less than a month to go until the Jan. 30 consumer launch of Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system, thousands of PC manufacturers and system builders across the globe are preparing to deliver new PCs designed to run the new versions of Microsoft’s flagship Windows and Office products. By Jan. 30, more than 1.5 million devices will work with Windows Vista and more than 2,000 products will be Certified for Windows Vista, helping to make Internet and networking connections, home entertainment and business tasks faster, easier and more secure than ever.
As a part of his keynote address, Gates provided a first look at a number of Windows Vista features and announced several new content partnerships that will enable people to explore their interests and express their creativity with greater freedom than ever. For example, Windows DreamScene™, available to Windows Ultimate customers through Windows Ultimate Extras, transforms the PC desktop from static background wallpaper into a full-motion, personalized video canvas. Windows Media Center SportsLounge in conjunction with FOXSports.com seamlessly combines live television, real-time scores and online sports media to keep people close to their favorite games, teams and players. Premium versions of Windows Vista will also offer brand-new content from existing partners and new ones, including, Nickelodeon, Showtime and Starz.
Gates also unveiled a series of exciting new Windows Vista-powered PCs that ranged from innovative desktop designs and ultra-portable models, all scheduled to be available Jan. 30, including the following:
• The HP TouchSmart PC, a Windows Vista-inspired PC that introduces the convenient touch-screen experience to desktop computing, serves as a fast and easy-to-access information, communication and entertainment hub designed to fit wherever life happens: in the kitchen, family room or living room.
• The Toshiba Portege R400 is a Windows Vista-inspired signature mobile PC that incorporates innovative connectivity and display technologies to provide timely access to e-mail and appointments via Active Notifications and is built on Windows SideShow™ technology.
• Sony VAIO VGX-TP1 is a stylish PC that delivers a high-performance entertainment experience so users can enjoy their favorite live and recorded TV and movies or surf the Web from their sofa using the wireless keyboard or remote control.
• The Medion UMPC is an ultra-mobile PC that provides multiple input options such as a keyboard, a pen and touch capabilities and features the new Origami Experience, a user interface that optimizes entertainment and communications on the smallest class of personal computers running Windows Vista.
“Windows Vista is the catalyst for a variety of new hardware devices being made available to consumers,” Gates said. “The result will be an incredible set of new connected experiences that link our interests, our communities and our desires in ways that extend across home, work and play.”
With its powerful graphics capabilities, advanced parental controls, and connectivity to the Live games and entertainment network, Windows Vista promises to capture the imagination of 200 million hardcore and casual PC gamers alike. Titles such as “Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures” (Eidos Interactive Ltd./Funcom) and “Crysis” (EA Partners/Crytek) take advantage of DirectX® 10, and offer some of the smoothest, most lifelike visual experiences available on any gaming platform today. Microsoft also showed off “Shadowrun” (Microsoft Game Studios) and “Halo® 2 for Windows Vista” (Microsoft Game Studios), the first of many titles that will enable gamers on Windows Vista to connect with their friends on Xbox 360 through the Live network. And for casual gamers, the company demonstrated a cross-platform game of “UNO!,” with some players joining from their Windows Vista-based PCs and others joining from their Xbox 360 consoles.
“Windows Vista marks the biggest investment from Microsoft around Windows games since Windows 95, making games easier, safer and more fun to play on the PC,” said Gates. “For consumers, we believe gaming is one of the top reasons to upgrade to Windows Vista.”
The development of Windows Vista and the 2007 Office release are the result of an unprecedented collaboration between Microsoft and its customers and partners. After more than 5 million beta downloads of Windows Vista and the 2007 Office release, the two products were designed with the help of millions of customers worldwide, including 50 families from seven countries taking part in the Life with Windows Vista program.
Xbox 360 and Microsoft TV: Together Expanding the World of Games and Entertainment
In a move that will combine the power of Xbox 360 with Microsoft TV IPTV Edition, Bach provided an early look at a new service, IPTV on Xbox 360. The offering is expected to deliver world-class TV experiences such as digital video recording capabilities, with gaming, movie viewing, and even voice and video communications. Tapping into an expanded set of entertainment experiences, users will be able to watch their favorite sporting event live while chatting with their friends, for example, or participate in a match on Xbox Live® while they record a TV program in the background. IPTV on Xbox 360 is expected to be available to consumers by holiday season 2007 and will be offered by providers that are deploying TV services based on the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform.
“Our goal is to make entertainment more personal, more interactive and more social,” Bach said. “IPTV on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live are powerful examples of ways we are bringing together the worlds of gaming, TV viewing and community to make it easy for people to access and discover their favorite content and share their personal experiences with the communities they are part of.”
Microsoft TV IPTV Edition continues to strengthen its position in the market with deployments under way with five of the world’s largest service providers and trials with 11 additional companies, representing a footprint across 14 countries on four continents.
Bach also showcased the strong momentum behind Xbox 360 and highlighted the company’s success in delivering high-definition viewing experiences with HD DVD. Exceeding expectations by hitting the 10.4 million-console-sold mark this holiday season, Xbox 360 is the leading next-generation games and entertainment platform. It is also the largest social network in the living room, with 5 million Xbox Live members.
In addition, strong sales of the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player and strong demand for downloadable movies and television programs are a clear indication that increasing numbers of consumers see Xbox 360 as an ideal device for connecting to a broad range of entertainment experiences. In just over a year, people have downloaded more than 100 million pieces of content to their Xbox 360 consoles, which include game content, television shows and movies.

Optoma announces trio of DLP projectors
Joining ViewSonic, Microvision, and Sharp, it looks like Optoma has a trio of its own projectors to lust over at CES, and they're all sporting that trendy DLP sticker as well. Up first is the 1080-capable HD81-LV, which pretty much stomps its predecessor in the specs department by offering up 2,500 ANSI lumens, 12,000:1 contrast ratio, and HDMI. If you're really feeling like emptying that piggy bank, you can add on the $3,999 BX-AL133 Cinemascope lens, which converts Hollywood movies into their native 2.35:1 aspect ratio for ultra-widescreen viewing. Coming down from the stratosphere, we run into the MovieTime DV11, which handily replaces the DV10 by keeping the integrated DVD player, featuring two five-watt stereo speakers, 1,300 ANSI lumens, 800 x 600 resolution, 2,500:1 contrast ratio, and a more reasonable $999 pricetag. Closing out the trifecta is the TX773, which was admittedly crafted more so for the office than your home theater room, and offers up 3,500 ANSI lumens, a 1,024 x 768 resolution, and DVI / VGA inputs; of course, you'd better be landing a rather large deal with it, or else the $2,499 pricetag might not really be justified. Nevertheless, all three of Optoma's latest should be shipping soon, and regardless of your motive, one of 'em ought to fit the bill. Click on through for a few more snapshots.

AMD used the Consumer Electronics Show to announce the new ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner yesterday, which will officially be launched on January 30, the same day Vista ships. The ATI TV Wonder DCT is an external box with a single unidirectional CableCARD slot, a USB 2.0 port to connect it with a Media Center PC, and a coaxial cable input. Most importantly, it is the first PC device to support high-definition video from cable providers (it does not work with satellite or IPTV providers), meaning that Media Center PCs with the Digital Cable Tuner will be able to do away with their set-top boxes.
According to Matthew Kreiner of ATI TV Wonder product group, The ATI TV Wonder DCT has been under development for nearly five years, with Microsoft heavily involved in the development process. AMD's box is the first PC device to be certified by CableLabs to offer a CableCARD solution
CES 2007: Arctic Cooling
Accelero S1 & S2
At this year's CES, Arctic Cooling unveiled their completely passive Accelero S Series. The coolers use heatpipes to transfer heat from the GPU to a large radiator-like surface that covers the whole video card.
Initially there will be two versions: The Accelero S1 and the Accelero S2.
The Accelero S1 is the high performance version featuring four heatpipes and supports:
* Radeon X1800, X1900, X1950
* GeForce 6800, 7800, 7900 and 7950 Series. 8800 cards are not supported at this time.
If you are looking for additional cooling performance or have very little airflow in your case you can install an additional Turbo Module that uses an active fan to improve cooling.
The Accelero S2 supports all low end and midrange cards ranging from Radeon 9xxx to X1650 and GeForce 4 to GeForce 7600. Compared to the S2 it has a smaller surface area and only two heatpipes, at a lower price. The Turbo Module can be installed here as well.
Freezer 64 Low Profile
To accomodate the needs of low-profile Media PCs the Freezer 64 LP was created. It is only 59 mm high, so will fit in all but the smallest cases. Air is sucked in via the two fans and exhaust on the sides of the heatsink. Initially the cooler is available only for Socket 939 and AM2, but an Intel version is in the works. Even though two small fans are installed they are running quiet at only 3000 RPM.
PWM Sharing Fans
Newer motherboards implement a four pin fan header that transmits an additional PWM signal that tells the fan how fast it is supposed to run. Usually only the CPU fan header on the motherboard is designed to do that, so you can connect only one fan. With the Arctic Cooling PWM Sharing Fans you can daisy chain up to five fans together to control them all via one PWM signal. The fans some in sizes of 80 mm, 92 mm and 120 mm

While we'll have to wait on some benchmarks to find out if Alienware's new Area-51 m9750 laptop is actually the world's "most powerful 17-inch system," there's no denying that the specs are plenty hot. The laptop features SLI NVIDIA graphics, Core 2 Duo processors, a Blu-ray optical drive, dual HDD up to 200GB per and up to 2GB of dual-channel DDR2 667MHz RAM. That 17-inch monitor features an eyesight bustin' 1920 x 1200 resolution, and should look nice with Vista, which will come pre-installed on the laptop. Alienware even tossed in a TV tuner and a full-size numeric keypad. No word on price or availability, but January 30th (Vista's out) seems a decent guess, and "a whole wad of cash" seems quite likely as well.

Creative ships stylish wireless earphones
Already bought the one you love an iPod, Zune, Zen or somesuch? Want to know what to get 'em next? Ask Creative, and it'll suggest a pair of its new Bluetooth 'phones, among the least bulky wireless cans we've seen.
The SE2300 set comprises the usual transmitter dongle, which plugs into any player's 3.5mm earphone socket, digitises the audio stream and beams it to the 'phones. These are a pair of clip-on speakers connected by a cable - so they're not entirely wire-free, unlike older 'phones with a headband.
Creative claimed the set's rechargeable battery has enough capacity for up to eight hours' wireless stereo playback.
The SE2300 earphones go on sale in the Far East first, for around $100 (£51/€77), Creative said, but we expect them to appear over here in due course. ®

Seamless Internet shows off S-XGen handheld communicator at CES 2007
Seamless Internet demoed a very amazing little device at CES 2007. The 398 gram "clamshell" is about as big as the average hand, and looks just like an average palm pilot. However, unfolding the device reveals a full size QWERTY keyboard, media player functions, standard PDA features, an ethernet port, USB ports, a webcam, and a 20GB hard drive. It connects to the internet using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE plus 3G protocols. The device is powered by a 520MHz XScale processor and 256MB of memory. There was no mention as to when we can expect to see the device, classified by Seamless as an ultra-mobile PC (laptop replacement), or how much it will cost.

Pics...Texas Instruments is the master of DLP HDTVs, and this is a reputation that has only been enforced by the company's showing here in Vegas.
By using LEDs instead of lamps, TI has managed to shrink down both TVs and projectors to super-small sizes, and the consequent concept designs for new products in 07 look fantastic.
On the show floor is a projector that runs RGB LEDs instead of lamps. The difference in the size, power and heat properties mean that this projector pocket sized - perfect for the upcoming wave of personal audio and video players.
Using this technology, TI has also built some concept projectors for gamers. Given that consoles like the 360 benefit massively from big-screen, high-def rendering, designs like this one could be a huge success - it certainly got me thinking about the best way to sneak it into my bag.
It's not all about projectors though. This DLP TV uses LED technology to create a massive contrast ratio - estimated at 100,000:1. By using super-fast switching of the LEDs and the mirrors, black areas of the screen can be projected with the LEDs actually shut off, meaning the blacks are really black. The birghtness inherent in the technology means that, by contrast, the whites are really white, too.
TI calls this technology solid-state illumination and, of course, the display is full 1080p.
In use, this technology looks fantastic, with amazing vibrance from the DLP TV even in a much-smaller-than-average housing. Expect to see TVs starting to use this technology from partners including Samsung in 07.
CES 2007: Sapphire
Sapphire's hottest new product at CES was the "Sapphire X1950 Pro Dual". The X1950 Pro has 512 MB GDDR3, 36 shaders, 8 vertex processors and 256-bit bus, clock speeds were not revealed at this time. Each of the two cores runs at those specs using ATI CrossFire. Windows will detect the card as two video cards, then you enable CrossFire like you would with any other CF setup. No special drivers or software (apart from Catalyst) is required. With ATI Physics close, it is also possible to use one core for physics and one core for graphics.
In the future Sapphire wants to combine two or three of those cards for 4-way and 6-way CrossFire setups. However, this requires quite some adjustments from ATI side in their drivers, and performance is still lacking.
The product is almost ready, some very minor adjustments need to be made. To show off their progress, Sapphire has been running a demo system with one of these cards. Even though two GPUs are in use, the cooler will only use one fan that sits in the center of the card. To accomodate the increased power requirements two PCI-E power connectors are required. When asked if it is possible to rotate the power connectors of this huge card, Sapphire replied that they would sure look into that.
From a price and performance point the card will fit into the void between X1950 XTX and GeForce 8800.
Another X1950 Pro product from Sapphire is this X1950 Pro Ultimate. It follows the X1950 Pro specs closely, comes with 256 MB of GDDR3 and uses a Zalman cooler to reduce fan noise and improve the overclocking potential.
For users who want a silent PC, in Media PCs for example, this completely passive cooled X1650 Pro has been developed. While it may not be the fastest card on the market, it sure is the quietest.

Nvidia gave premier electronics show a miss
