Notícias do mundo Nintendo

MoSys' embedded memory will power Nintendo's Wii providing the console with high performance, high density 1T-SRAM. Three new trademarks registered by the company have also suggested a name for Wii's messaging service.

MoSys, a provider of high-density system-on-chip (SoC) embedded memory solutions, announced that Nintendo's Wii uses MoSys' patented 1T-SRAM technology to implement the very high performance memory within the Wii console's graphics system. As the launch date for Nintendo's new console approaches, we will gradually begin to discover exactly what is included under its hood. The Japanese video game giant has kept hardware specs vague and ha refused to discuss its new console's graphics potential, focusing, instead, on gameplay. This lack of hardware information has led to a multitude of rumors ranging from shadows of Project Reality to XBox comparisons. As we discover exactly what powers the Wii we will gradually begin to unravel the next-generation potential of Nintendo's little warrior.

The two companies have been working together for over six-years and previous generations of MoSys' 1T-SRAM technology were incorporated in Nintendo's GameCube in 1999. The newest 1T-SRAM implementations embedded within the Wii console are fabricated using NEC Electronics' advanced 90nm CMOS-compatible embedded DRAM process technology. These high speed and ultra low latency memories are used as the main embedded memory on the graphics chip and in an additional external memory chip.

In other Wii news, Nintendo has registered three new trademarks, WiiPointer, WiiCulture, and !!M. That last one is the console's name, Wii, upside down and may be the name carried by the messaging service. We are not sure about pronunciation although Eem might be a fair guess.

Square-Enix worried about DS Lite supplies

During a recent shareholder meeting, Square-Enix announced concern over the supplies of DS and DS Lite. Their reason for being concerned? They do not want supplies of the DS or DS Lite to run out when they are coming close to the launch of Final Fantasy III. They believe that if there are significant system shortages, it will slow down the sales of FF III, a title they are very excited to launch, and believe will have strong sales on the portable. Nintendo has reassured Square-Enix that they are shipping as many units as possible, working to meet the 2 million units supplied each month during the summer period.

*RUMOR* Bandai-Namco working on Time Crisis Wii?

It’s strange, a lot of noise has been going on recently concerning Bandai-Namco’s support of the Wii. I have seen many sites talking about the “new” support from Bandai-Namco, but this was info we knew about for a month or so now. The new bit of info comes via SPOnG, who states that there have been some rumblings on just what B-N is working on.

Back when Bandai-Namco were seperate, Namco had a huge arcade hit known as Time Crisis. A light gun shooter set on rails, but loaded with fast-paced gameplay. Time Crisis has spawned several sequels, and is a mainstay at any true arcade. I myself was just playing the latest Time Crisis while at Dave & Busters. The rumor is that B-N is working on another installment of the long running series, but this one is a Wii exclusive. The Wiimote makes perfect sense for another Time Crisis game, and I would be very surprised to hear that B-N hasn’t discussed the idea.
While this stays rumor for now, the possibility of a Time Crisis sequel heading to the Wii remains a pretty safe bet.

More talk from Nintendo of Spain

More comments from Nico Wegnez from Nintendo of Spain, mostly related to Europe, but some very interesting things are said. Cube, Wii, DS talk below. Summaries originally posted by Escandell over at the Neo-Gaf forums.

About Zelda Twilight Princess
They don’t know if it will be in two SKU in Europe, or just one with both the GCN and the Wii versions. They’re studying right now the cost for the final user and the viability of these options in our continent to make the right choice.

About Wii launch
Nothing really new, but says that it may be in the street just ten days after Japan (v.g., last week of October in Japan and first half of November in Europe). Anyway, it will be in the stores before the Christmas campaign (commonly, it starts the 15th November in Spain), and we will not suffer the same delay we had with N64 and GCN.

About Virtual Console and online pay
They don’t really think europeans pay so easily online with their credit cards, so they will try to sell in stores pre-pay cards to make it easier for everyone as an alternative. Games in VC may be between 5-10 euros (just direct change from 5-10 US dollars).

Band Bros (Daigasoo! Band Brothers, Jam with the Band): an edition for every country
Nintendo Spain submitted to Japan this idea: Sell an special edition of Band Brothers in every european country. For example, in Spain there would be Estopa (popular music group) songs. They are really interested in that choice for the game because it can give them really high revenues, but they haven’t had any response from NCL yet.

DS Cooking and English Training in Europe, maybe this year
DS Cooking (cook action/simulation game from Nintendo, similar to Cooking Mama) will be distributed in Europe. Also English Training (also in UK? Anyway, I will buy it to improve my English… I’m sorry for my mistakes!). Both can arrive to Europe this year.

Zelda Phantom Hourglass: Maybe this year too
They’re not sure, but they would love to make a DS/Wii campaign with Zelda as main theme, but they’re afraid the game will finally arrive to Europe in 2007.

Bad GCN numbers
Less than 300.000 GCN units sold in Spain in all its lifespan (maybe 275k-280k, they don’t have exact numbers). They think they failed with this console, and feel sad about it.

About Baten Kaitos 2
Nothing new yet, they’re still thinking if they will be sell it in Europe (I hope so!)

Do not expect nothing too big about Electroplankton
They don’t think that this game (or no-game, whatever) can sell a lot, but they think that what is really important is that gamers can choose if they want it or not, and just go into a store and buy it. It’s important for them to give the biggest catalogue possible.
Front flap OPEN!

Bonjour,

My name is Marie-Sol Beaudry, producer of Red Steel here in the Ubisoft Paris studio. We’re excited to share bits of information here on the ongoing development of this Wii exclusive launch title. Along with me, you’ll get to hear from our creative director, lead designer, art director and others on their areas of expertise.

We were really excited by everyone’s response to the Nintendo Wii at E3 and were thrilled to showcase Red Steel at the Nintendo press conference. After working so long on this project in complete secrecy, it was great to not just show the game but to also let people play it for the first time.

RS_Blog1_Inline1.jpg

For this initial Blog entry, we want to talk about the Wii controller and how we’re using it to it is fullest.

The challenge for working on a new system, especially one that has such a focus on the interface with the Wii controller is that everything we’re doing in the game is directly effected by the controller. This includes everything from level design, overall game design, movement and storyline. When we first received the controller our imaginations were limitless but then we spoke to our programmers and determined that there were guidelines and rules of which we’d need to adhere to in regard to both functionality as well as game play.

In other words, while the shooting was fairly straight forward, point-and-shoot, it was the sword play that proved to be a true challenge. We quickly learned that wielding a sword and manipulating the controller was a lot of fun, but we didn’t want to force people to become actual professional swordsmen – just have fun. Also, we have to consider the animations of the sword and matching it up with what you see on screen. We didn’t want any delay whatsoever in response to what was happening with the controller and what you saw on the screen.

We’re continuing to tweak the controls to optimize the game and ensure it’s a great experience on all levels, for example keeping the precision and accuracy of the aiming but working on the sensitivity and the stability. Also the sword fighting is going to offer more diversity in movements and couple of special moves I will not talk about this time...

Well, that’s it for now. Stay tuned and see you again in two weeks!

Call of Duty 3 Wii info

Where does the current-gen fit in all this — and the Wii? That’s a good question, and one that we’re not certain we’re happy with the answer to. So much of what we’ve seen Treyarch shine with pride about revolved around the technological capacity of the next-generation consoles, and there still hasn’t been a totally satisfactory way to bring something to the next-gen and current-gen. We know that only the PSP will feature a different storyline, so perhaps the next-gen versions will be nice additions for the PS2 or Xbox owner in a slump. The Wii version, in development outside Treyarch, shows some potential to bring the player into the game during the Battle Actions in a way the PS3 and 360 won’t be able to. Actually wrestling with a German for his gun or actually disarming that explosive are things only the Wii will let you do this gen.
