Usei durante muitos anos o Corel Draw e agora quero ver-me levre dele e usar um programa mais simples (freeware de preferencia). Existe algum que consiga pegar nos meus ficheiros *.cdr criados no COrel?

Tens o Sodipodi. Open-source. Não sei se abre ficheiros criados com corel draw.

O GIMP, tal como Photoshop não prestam para desenho vectorial. Suponho que seja uma alternativa ao Corel Draw (desenho vectorial) que o outro utilizador esteja à procura. Sendo preferencial um programa gratuito, julgo que o melhor será o sodipodi. Caso contrário tens o Adobe Illustrator (pago). EDIT: Lembrei-me que existe o Inkscape!!!!! Nem sei como me fui esquecer desta maravilha.

haver, certamente haverá. Simplesmentes, julgo - posso estar engano - que não haverá um conversor universal, ou seja que converta tudo e mais alguma coisa. O que te posso sugerir é que procures no google. Por exemplo, suponhamos que queres converter cdr para bmp. Poderás procurar no google por "convert cdr to bmp" (sem aspas ou com aspas nao sei lol). Acho que será a melhor solução. Obviamente se encontrares uma solução melhor, também agradecia que me a indicasses :)

pelo que pude entender pretender algo que converta formato corel (por exemplo) para o formato do inkscape (por exemplo).

Já experimentes abrir o ficheiro do corel no inkscape? Sei que o adobe illustrator abre ficheiros cdr.

You can use the UniConvertor (http://sourceforge.net/projects/uniconvertor/) for converting CDR and some other formats to SVG. In Inkscape 0.46, there's an input extension that will allow you to open or import CDR files directly from Inkscape if you have UniConvertor installed on your system.
If you can't run UniConvertor, you can try this workaround:
Open CDR (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=CDR&action=edit) file Corel Draw. Save it as binary encoded CGM (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=CGM&action=edit)* file. It will save only vector graphics. It will not save bitmap graphics.
Open CGM file in OpenOffice Impress. Copy to Open Office Draw and insert original JPG (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=JPG&action=edit) or another bitmap graphics. Save file as ODG (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=ODG&action=edit) And you can continue in Open Office Draw program.)
Select all (CTRL+A)
Export as SVG.
Open SVG file in Inkscape and correct mistakes if they appear.
Note: OpenOffice will open only binary encoded CGM (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=CGM&action=edit) files in Impress. If the CGM (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php?title=CGM&action=edit) is encoded using clear-text encoding, it will be opened in OpenOfice Writer, thus rendering the next steps invalid.

Não consigo sacar esse Uniconverter. Aparecem-me uns ficheiros com terminação *.rpm (será linux?)

Já percebi que só posso utilizar o Uniconverter em Linux. Não há nenhuma ferramenta identica para Windows?

precisas é das librarias do Python para o programa funcionar, para isso:

UniConvertor requires Python and Python Image Library (PIL). You need downloading and installing Python 2.5 msi-package (http://python.org (http://python.org/)) and after that corresponded PIL package (http://pythonware.com (http://pythonware.com/products/pil/index.htm))
Please check that your Python directory and \Scripts directory are in system path. If not just add they in "My computer->Properties->Advanced->Enviroment Variables" for "Path" system variable.
Install UniConvertor and run in console command "uniconv --help" to get detalied help.

depois instalas o uniconverter

NOTA: ainda não acabei.. :p
