It turns out today that Mario & Sonic won’t be the only videogame characters to make an apperance up at the next Olympic Games in 2008, with PocketGamer (http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/DS/Asterix+at+the+Olympic+Games/news.asp?c=3804) reporting that Atari is using the live-action film Asterix at the Olympic Games - based on the 1968 comic book - to bring another Olympic experience to the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii.

Atari (http://www.atari.com/) is keeping tight-lipped about the title, only confirming that gamers will be able to step into the shoes of Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix in a series of “wild adventures and challenges.”
The original comic book story involved Asterix fixing a place in the world’s greatest sporting competition by means of a ‘magic potion’ that he took beforehand. He soon finds out that the substance he has ingested is banned at the event, but he doesn’t let that stop him.
Oh, no. The Gauls doctor a new version of the potion, which they release to the Romans. The silly country-conquerors accept the offer, only to realise that the mixture turns their tongues blue. Once the sporting authorities spot this, they’re all disqualified, leaving Asterix to amble on home to victory.
We’ve no idea what Asterix at the Olympic Games has in store, but it’s planned for a release in Europe (excluding the UK) this winter time.
