- Patch for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 (05/24/02).
Microsoft has released a patch that fixes a vulnerability in Windows
Debugger, which allows a user to elevate privileges in Windows NT 4.0 and
Windows 2000. This vulnerability lies in a flaw in the authentication
mechanism for Windows debugging tasks, which allows an unauthorized program
to take control of another. This could allow an attacker to launch a program
that, in turn, launches another program of the attacker's choice, which
would run with maximum privileges.
